Dear readers!

My name is Emma and I am an artoholic. I draw and paint a lot and when possible I like to share the results online. I also like talking with other creative people. I'm not yet certain what this journal will become, but it will be replacing my old livejournal.

Introduce yourself here if you like!

Thanks for reading,

~ Emma

Tea <3

inklingart: (my teacup)
I'm treating myself to Hazelnut black tea and Apple Spiced Chai from adagio. Now I'm going to be really impatient for the package to arrive - the downside of ordering tea online.

I've had a busy time this year; started out in a real tight spot and had a hard time finding work, but now I'm employed as a graphic designer! It's actually quite interesting to me and from the pleased customers I seem to be pretty good at it. Good design and painting have a lot in common, too, but fortunately not so much that I'm forced to give up freelancing in illustration on my own time! Speaking of which I've got another big testing project that will yet again be under NDA for the better part of a decade, but I can certainly use the opportunity to replenish my savings and whatnot!

The only bad thing about these long-term NDAs is that because I can't talk about most of the work I'm doing, I don't gain any ground in my career from it other than lots of experience working with a team to develop a product on a tight deadline with a ridiculous number of images. Hopefully I will be able to make some headway in that direction this year with some of the other stuff I've got planned... so stay tuned!
I submitted a design for the recent Threadless contest. Go have a look!

 Happy New Year, guys! :)

(2011 can kiss my ass.)
ysabetwordsmith has opened a marketplace in her livejournal

She's calling it "Winterfaire," and if you are buying or selling art and handmade products this season you should definitely check it out!
I made it!

You can see all of the pages in the Picasa gallery.

lalala, comics.... I drew most of these sunday evening.

From a creative standpoint, I rather like the characters in Spiral Knights. They're pretty anonymous because of their unremovable helmets, sure, but you can use old armor as a "costume" over whatever gear you're actually using to mix up your own little special costume.

But what I really like about the character design is that there's no gender bias on the armor. Your characters are created without gender, and who knows what's going on behind that bucket helm? Sure there's a few helmets with pigtails attached, but they're low-level cosmetic choices and there's no chain mail bikinis lurking about. I'm almost surprised how relieved I am by being finally able to have a female character who doesn't dress like a hooker for battle.

And yes, that icon shows my avatar from the game. LOOK! SHE HAS REAL PANTS!
For the sake of peoples' reading pages, I shall make a cut.

Hello there!

Wow, it's been almost a year since I first posted to this journal - and there's been nothing since. I think that I'll attempt to remedy that now, which probably is going to mean sketches, and musings on personal projects I'd like to do.

For now, I'm going to link a previously posted set of thumbnails. I'd intended to finish these a while ago and I still like the layouts, so I thought I'd seek opinions as to which I should explore first. The thumbnails in question are here
